Election Shout-Out ... Vote for Obama!

Dear classmates,

I am writing this blog in case some of you newly-turned 18-yr-olds have not registered to vote yet. The election on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, may be your first election, and it may very well be one of the most important United States elections--ever. It's an historical event if nothing else. I understand if you don't give a crap about politics. When I was 18 I didn't give too much of a crap about politics, myself. I have grown to appreciate our rights as U.S. citizens thanks to my loooong-life experience of almost 26 years now ;) I traveled to Spain, Guatemala and South Africa between the ages of 18 and 21, and if there is one lesson I learned, it was that we are immensely blessed in this country to have a voice. Everyone should vote (I may regret saying this, but even if you are a Republican you should vote--preferably for Obama ;) If you were jazzed about Hillary Clinton, well, I encourage you to turn your sights to Obama now, because he carries much of the same agenda as she did: healthcare for all citizens, pro-women's rights (insert pro-choice), ending the war in Iraq responsibly, taking better care of veterans, healing our damaged relations with most of the rest of the world, stronger education systems, preparing this country for the remainder of this century--which means taking a stand on environmental issues and our reliance on foreign oil...need I go on? Please register (#1) and consider Obama for your vote (#2). It may be the best decision you've made in 18 years!! :-) Go forth and make your voices heard!!

~Amanda
